Nestled in one of the most beautiful parts of the Garden Route between Knysna and Sedgefield, this campsite offers a relaxing outdoor experience with clean facilities, easy access to two towns, and a peaceful atmosphere – and one of the best sea views you will find.

Buffelskop is about 1km before Buffelsbaai town and should not be confused with the Buffels Bay campsite in town.
It is a municipal campsite and is run as such, not as a commercial campsite with private owners.
When we arrived, the main (automatic) gate was not functioning so we drove right in. You may book any stand number but it doesn’t carry much weight. We took our preferred site (nr 9) where we found a local from Knysna and his girlfriend having a picnic. I think we broke up the party.
It also appeared that whoever camped before us had a pleasurable weekend with wet toilet paper draped over nearby undergrowth. After we removed a discarded condom from the site, we settled in. We learned later that we were booked on a different site.
During the month two more campers arrived claiming to have booked the site. It appears not to be a problem as the same thing happened during the month on other campsites.
Although the caravan park has a gate and (sometimes) a night watchman, the premises are easily accessed from the beach through a tunnel under the road with an open gate.
The Wife initially was uncomfortable with teenagers and children around but we learned that they were the children of the municipal employees living on the premises.
We never felt unsafe, probably because this is the Western Cape and also because it is not near a town. As far as I could ascertain, there has not been any theft or crime at Buffelskop. While we were there we heard of break-ins in Buffelsbaai town. I suspect it may have something to do with construction workers who stayed on a building site in town.
What to do at Buffelskop
Buffelskop is just before Buffelsbaai, halfway between Knysna and Sedgefield, about an hour’s drive from George.
Between Plett and George there are many things to do and places to visit.
There are markets at Plett, Harkerville, Sedgefield, and George as well as dirt roads and farm stalls which provide good sightseeing opportunities.
We visited the restaurant of Elvis Blue, Nostalgia Restaurant on Karatara road, Redberry strawberry farm with its wide range of activities and products, Buffalo Bay Trail (medium difficulty), and the beach. You can walk from Buffels Bay on the beach at low tide to Brenton-on-Sea, have something at the restaurant, and walk back, a 7km round trip.

Buffelskop Caravan Park offers affordable rates for campers throughout the year.
If you are sensitive to wind, Buffelskop (and the Cape) may not be the best campsite for you due to its elevation and exposure to the Southern Ocean.
